LEADER
1. This person:

-has more life experience than you.

-is like a mentor, steering u in the direction of your giftings, passions, and purpose.

– is not afraid to keep it real with you, but u know it comes from a genuine place. They mean you no harm.

  • only want the best for you and from you.

-challenges you to reveal to you your own strength and capabilities.

-will hold you accountable.

Though this person may be there for you through your tough seasons, they are never meant to replace God in your life. God says He is a jealous God. No one comes before Him. {Exodus 20:5}

 

ENCOURAGER
2. This person:

  • is more on your level, mentally and spiritually.

-will most likely be like a best friend. You both have a lot in common, but yet different in many ways.

  • shares some of your struggles.

-makes you better {Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.}

-has that shoulder you can cry on (no judgement).

When you only notice the negative, they are quick to assure you of the positive they see in you.You both hold each other accountable. {An example of this type of relationship is David and Jonathan’s in the Bible}

 

MENTOREE
3. This person:

-allows  you to pour into them.

-benefits tremendously due to your experience of also being a mentoree. (You know what is like to be in their shoes)

-values your opinion of them.

  • hopes to be more like you as they mature.

-clings to your words of encouragement and advice.

-willingly accepts your challenges to enhance their perspective…their life.

They may not always understand your methods, but over time, they will. You are not in their life to stroke their ego, you are there to show them the strength they possess. {An example of this type of relationship is Elisha and Elijah’s in the Bible.}
