1 Samuel 17: 38 – 40

38 Then Saul gave David his own armor—a bronze helmet and a coat of mail. 39 David put it on, strapped the sword over it, and took a step or two to see what it was like, for he had never worn such things before.

“I can’t go in these,” he protested to Saul. “I’m not used to them.” So David took them off again. 40 He picked up five smooth stones from a stream and put them into his shepherd’s bag. Then, armed only with his shepherd’s staff and sling, he started across the valley to fight the Philistine.

39 “I (David) can’t go in these (Saul’s armor).”

This short statement is so profound. When I read this I think of how people will try things on you, thinking they’re protecting you, but all they’re doing is hindering your progress. Wow. Lord, let me never take or put on what is not meant for me. What is protection to one, may cause the defeat of another. #Selah
Lord, only give me what’s for me and may I be content with it. May I never become envious over what is not mine. What you give me is enough… more than enough.
In verses 39 and 40, David took off Saul’s armor and picked up five stones to put in his bag. David wasn’t having identity issues. He knew who he was and what he was good at…what he was built for. He picked up what he needed and headed out to fight Goliath. David had balls. Everybody else was afraid of Goliath, but he wasn’t. He knew his God would come through. David believed wholeheartedly that God was with him and protecting him. He knew his God wouldn’t cause these sinful people to triumph over His chosen people. I admire David’s confidence. This young man was willing to fight for his people, proving that the God they call on is absolutely REAL.

PRAYER
Father, reveal to me the things I’ve “put on”, that were never meant for me. Give me the boldness David had to not only stand up for You, but to lovingly decline the suggestions of those who are weighing me down with what’s not for me. My giants are no match for You. You are the all-powerful God. Thank You for the reminder of the strength I gain when I decide to rely on You and surrender to Your way. Have Your way in my life today Lord. I pray all this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
